When Winter Ice Grips, Cleats ICE the Fall

At Winter Walking Traction we specialize in shoe cleats for ice.  An ice cleat is a traction aid that attachs to the bottom of an ordinary shoe.  The underside of the ice cleat is made rough with coiled wires or protruding metal ice spikes.  The ice spikes are designed in a variety of shapes, depths and degrees of sharpness.

As you take a step your ice shoe cleats dig into the slippery surface.  Rather than sliding your shoe grips and gives you traction on ice.  Because your shoe grips as you step you're able to walk confidently with your normal stride and speed.  When walking without cleats ice can surprise you, making it necessary to carefully place your foot with every step.

Without cleats ice that is hidden under a layer of new snow can be deadly.  Approximately 60 people die every year in the U.S. due to falling on the ice, most suffering head injuries.   Adding an ice cleat is like wearing a helmet when you go out for a bike ride.   Ice cleats for shoes are as easy to put on and take off as your bike helmet, they're almost as light weight, they're easier to store and provides a similar increase in safety.  Because shoe cleats for ice keep you on your feet you're also protected from wrist fractures and back injuries, the most common winter weather related injuries seen by orthopedic surgeons.

Ice shoe cleats attach to your regular shoe using elacticized or Velcro straps, so you don't need to carry a separate shoe or boot, making ice cleats for shoes simple and convenient to use.  It couldn't be easier to have traction on ice whenever you need it.

Most styles of ice cleats for shoes are easy to stow in your pocket, a small carry bag or glove box, making it easy to have an ice cleat with you when you need it.  Consider adding a pair of shoe cleats for ice to your emergency vehicle supplies.  If the weather is bad enough to leave you stranded it's going to require your shoes to have traction on ice as well.  If you're wearing cleats ice and packed snow will not stop you from getting help.

As you've probably realized, ice cleats for shoes are also referred to as ice spikes or shoe grips.  Regardless of what you call them ice shoe cleats are designed to keep you on your feet.

Despite their aggressive names most styles of ice spikes and ice shoe cleats are not very sharp; therefore, not hazardous to come into contact with.  The protruding metal on the underside of most shoe cleats for ice gain their grip by being rough rather than sharp.  The shapes of the ice spikes are designed to dig in under your body weight, but without the force of your step they're no more harmful than bolts from the hardware store.

Without cleats ice and packed snow are a threatening part of winter, so we offer a wide variety of ice cleats for shoes to keep you safe and confident.  Pick the ice cleat that works for you.  Now, get out and enjoy winter!
